The Man From U.N.C.L.E: First trailer

The Man From U.N.C.L.E

If you are someone that loves style, sophistication, humour, explosion and spy activities in your movies (me in a nutshell), then the recently released trailer for Guy Ritchie’s The Man From U.N.C.L.E might just go straight to the top of your 2015 movie must watch list.

For those of you not in the know, The Man From U.N.C.L.E is a remake of the 60’s NBC TV show of the same name, that follows Robert Vaughn as CIA agent Napoleon Solo and David McCallum as KGB operative Illya Kuryakin, that work for a secret espionage and law-enforcement agency called U.N.C.L.E.

Edge of Tomorrow hits the UK

Edge of Tomorrow

Tom Cruise who is arguably the world’s biggest action hero, returns to the big screen in sci-fi thriller “Edge of Tomorrow”. The movie is based on the graphic novel “All You Need Is Kill” by Japanese author Hiroshi Sakurazaka and has Tom Cruise playing an inexperienced soldier fighting off an alien invasion. Unfortunately he is stuck in a time loop that sees him relive the same day every time he dies.

Godzilla stomps into UK cinemas

Now except you have been struck in some parallel dimension, you would not have escaped seeing adverts announcing the return of the world’s most iconic kaiju. Godzilla returns to the big screen after it’s visually impressive but poorly received 1998 outing which was directed by Roland Emmerich.

The Raid 2: Berandal hits Cinemas

The Raid 2: Berandal

Anyone who watched “The Raid: Redemption” will doubt say that it was one of the best action movies ever made. The widely praised Indonesian movie had brutal action scenes and introduced the world to Pencak silat which is an Indonesian martial art. Given the success of Redemption, its sequel “The Raid 2: Berandal” has some really big shoes to fill.

Toby Stephens stars in the machine

the machine

The Machine is another movie based on the classic Man vs. Robot face-off. The movie has Toby Stephens (Die Another Day & All Things to All Men) and Caity Lotz playing computer scientists who create a self aware Artificial Intelligence.

The movie is set in a world that has been crippled by a cold war so it is perfectly natural for some genius at the UK’s Ministry of Defense to look at the AI and think “Why don’t we put this in a robot that is faster and stronger than any human being and make the perfect soldier”. After that all hell breaks loose.

Zack Snyder’s 300: Rise of an Empire opens in the UK

Zack Snyder’s 300: Rise of an Empire opens in the UK

In 2007, cinemas were assaulted by Gerald Butler leading a muscle bound cast in Zack Snyder’s “300” and the phrase “This is Sparta!!!” became pop culture reference. In 2014, Zack Snyder returns to produce “300: Rise of an Empire” which is directed by Noam Murro and once again it is the Spartans going up against the might of the rather weird King Xerxes played by Rodrigo Santoro.

Liam Neeson stars in Non-Stop

Liam Neeson stars in Non-Stop

Liam Neeson returns to the action movie genre in Non-Stop as a Federal air marshal accused of hijacking his own plane. He joins a cast that includes the talented Julianne Moore, Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery and Lupita Nyong'o from “12 Years A Slave”.

Non-Stop is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra who directed the 2005 remake of House of Wax and brillant “Orphan”. He has also directed Liam Neeson in action thriller “Unknown”.

Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston star in Only Lovers Left Alive

Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston star in Only Lovers Left Alive

The vampire movie genre has taken a battering thanks to the Twilight series but Only Lovers Left Alive aims to restore the cool factor that has been lost by the bloodsuckers. The movie stars Hollywood veteran Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston as a vampire couple trying to live in a modern world which Tom Hiddleston’s rock star character is struggling to fit in.

The cast also includes John Hurt, Mia Wasikowska and Anton Yelchin. "Only Lovers Left Alive" is directed by Jim Jarmusch which gave us the brilliant 1999 “Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai” which starred Forest Whitaker.

Guardians of the Galaxy trailer released

Guardians of the Galaxy trailer released

Marvel have released the first trailer for their upcoming movie “Guardians of the Galaxy”. Unlike other Marvel superhero teams like the X-men and Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy are not as popular and the trailer starts off by introducing us to each character. You have WWE wrestler Dave Batista playing Drax the Destroyer and Zoe Saldana as the green skinned Gamora .

George Clooney's Monument Men opens on Valentine's day

Valentine’s Day is synonymous with chocolate, flowers and awful romantic comedies but Monument Men will be a welcome change to watching another predictable rom-com.

Starring and directed by George Clooney, the movie is based on Robert M. Edsel’s book “The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History” which tells the true story of the attempt to recover stolen pieces of art from the Nazis during world War 2.
