New MINI Countryman
MINI is using the New York Auto show to unveil a face lifted version of the hugely successful Countryman. The Countryman has sold over 350,000 units since it was introduced, so the formula has not been dramatically altered but enhanced to bring the styling in-line with the recently introduced all new MINI Cooper.
There are new colours available including Jungle Green, Midnight Grey and Starlight Blue. The front has the biggest changes with a new grille design featuring a more prominent air scoop, optional LED Fog lights with daytime running lights and a new crossbar. All new 16 or 17-inch wheels that are lighter than the previous models are now available and the sportier Cooper Countryman models feature red ‘S’ badging.
Power output from the 1.6-liter turbo has been increased by 7 hp up to 190 hp in the Cooper S Countryman, given it a 0-62mph time of 7.5 seconds. If that is not fast enough for you, there is always the 218 hp John Cooper Works Countryman that will achieve the same feat in 6.9 seconds. For the less conservative of you, the engine is available in 89 hp and 122 hp or three diesel options with 90hp, 111hp or 143 hp.
All engines are more efficient than before and are mated to a six-speed manual transmission as standard or an optional six-speed automatic. Four-wheel drive is optional on all Cooper Countryman models.
Prices have been announced for the UK and the new Countryman will go on sale this spring staring from £16,990.
