2014 Mini Cooper revealed
BMW has unveiled the new for 2014, fourth generation MINI Cooper at the MINI factory in Oxford. If you were expecting a radical new design you will be disappointed because the MINI Cooper’s design is more evolutionary than revolutionary. Subtle design changes include more circular headlights with integrated LED's and a larger grill. The new car is also larger (98mm longer, 44mm wider and 7mm taller) than the outgoing model which should address the lack of headroom and legroom (especially at the rear) that have plagued the MINI Cooper. Boot space has now been increased to 211 litres from 160 litres in the new Mini Cooper.
The New 2014 MINI Cooper will be offered in the familiar Cooper, Cooper D and Cooper S line and powering the base versions are a three-cylinder 1.5 litre petrol engine with 134bhp and another three-cylinder but this time a diesel 1.5 litre engine with 114bhp. The MINI Cooper S will however get a 2.0 litre engine with 189bhp. All engines on offered will be turbocharged and the 2014 MINI Cooper S will clock Zero to 62mph in 6.8 seconds. The petrol powered MINI Cooper will hit Zero to 62mph in 7.9 seconds while the Cooper D will do it in 9.2 seconds.
The 2014 MINI Cooper comes with a trio of gearboxes: a standard manual, an automatic and a sport automatic. The sports automatic transmission can be operated in manual mode using shift paddles located behind the steering wheel and will be capable of shorter shift times.
On the inside, the MINI’s iconic central mounted instrument panel - depending on what options are selected - can be had with a TFT display or an optional 8.8-inches colour screen showing vehicle functions, infotainment, navigation and MINI Connected services. The central panel now gets a ring of LED lighting which will give visual cues to the driver.
The MINI Cooper will set you back £15,300, while the diesel engined version (Cooper D) will cost £16,450. If you want the MINI Cooper S then you will have to pay £18,650 but be warned, the MINI comes with a long list of optional extras so you can easily spend a small fortune on personalizing your car. The car goes on sale globally in spring 2014.
